Tip #3: Three Ways to Find the Perfect Employee
March 30, 2009 0 Comments
Let’s face it, finding the “right” person to fit your organization’s culture isn’t always easy. There are many ways to select the best candidate from a pool of potential employees (behavioral interviewing, hiring and promotion assessments, etc.); but where do you get that pool of eager employees-to-be in the first place. Here are few ways to dig up the talent:
- Search the Web – The internet is a boundless source of information and can be a good tool for finding a shiny new employee. There are many job board sites out there in which you may post a job or search the resumes of many qualified candidates. Some of the more notable ones being www.monster.com and www.careerbuilder.com. If you’re looking for an employee that specializes in a certain field, search the niche job boards such as www.dice.com (tech jobs), www.talentzoo.com (marketing and advertising jobs), or www.agcareers.com (agriculture jobs). If you are looking for more experienced job candidates or executives, try www.theladders.com which posts jobs with salaries over 100k.
- Phone a Friend – We all have a friend that “knows everybody.” Or a “guy who knows another guy.” Tap in to you network of colleagues and friends to find the talent you are looking for. They may work out to be the ideal candidate for your organization and a referral is a lot cheaper than paying an agency to find someone for you.
- Hit the Books – If you are looking for the shining stars of the future, you’ll find tons of fresh young faces on a college or university campus. Many schools (if not all of them) have a Career Services department and will work with you to help find the next wave of talent for your company.
